Beat Baahubali! Forget It For Some Time
Beating “Baahubali” at the box office is the only target of Bollywood folks ever since this Rajamouli directorial stunned the whole of Indian audiences. In its stunning 140+ days at Indian and other countries’ box office, legendary “Baahubali 2” collected almost 1700+ crores gross ( 1300 cr nett.. ie., 831+ cr share) from the box office. So, how to beat it?
Ever since Baahubali happened, Bollywood is churning some interesting historical and epic films that have this huge drama, visual effects, and grandeur. But they are not working out as easily as it looks. Firstly we have Bollywood projecting “Bajirao Mastani” as the big film that will hit Baahubali 2 on its head. Though the screenplay and emotional connect in that Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial is pretty high, the larger-than-life that is seen in Baahubali is missing. That made Bajirao’s journey end at 184 crores nett at Bollywood box office in India.
Then came Padmaavat, tipped to be a stupendous historical film that will wipe out the history created by Baahubali with a single hand. Well, it’s the same as above, and the film ended up making a bit more than the previous one. This Deepika-Ranveer starrer made 302 crores nett in its lifetime from the Indian box office. And now, it is better to talk less about Thugs Of Hindostan, because that film made only 133+ crores nett so far across world box office.
The target of these films is obviously the 500 crores nett made by Baahubali 2 at Indian box office. Other than historical films, the likes of Salman’s Tiger Zinda Hai, Race 3 and others also tried their hand, but Baahubali 2 remains the ‘baap’ of all.
Now the mood in Bollywood is that it is better to relax and forget about beating Baahubali for some time. Because they feel that the very thought of beating Baahubali is not giving them scope to make great content.
