Is Swami the CM face of BJP in Telugu States?
As Gulte predicted before, Swami Paripoornananda is said to have been BJP High Command’s pick as the Chief Minister candidate for Telugu states. Apparently, BJP National President Amit Shah has made the decision for Telangana BJP, but the party is willing to field him as their CM candidate even in AP.
Similar to Uttar Pradesh where BJP has fielded a religious figure as their CM face, BJP in its strategy to enter the South has now finalised on Swami Paripoornananda. According to inside sources, the pontiff of Kakinada’s Sri Peetham will drive BJP’s election campaign in the State, reinforcing Hindutva ideology among people.
While the BJP is testing waters in Telangana through a religious head, it will be interesting to witness whether Telangana will fall for the religious (Hindutva) sentiment. During his recent visit to Telangana, Amit Shah said that all political parties, except the BJP in Telangana, are working to appease a single community. In such a scenario, BJP believes that Paripoornanda could be their saviour in Telangana.
“We think that his promotion of soft dharma will attract his followers who will help the party win seats,” a source within the party added.
