Hyderabad: Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj was on Thursday awarded a cheque for Rs 1 crore and 600 square yards of land in Banjara Hills by the Telangana government for her feats on the cricket ground.
The 35-year-old from Hyderabad is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and the only female cricketer to surpass the 6,000-run mark in ODIs. Mithali Raj is the first captain (men or women) to lead India to an ICC ODI World Cup final twice — in 2005 and 2017.
State sports minister T. Padma Rao Goud, sports secretary Burra Venkatesham and Sports Authority of Telangana State chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy awarded the cheque and land documents at the Secretariat Conference Hall on Thursday. Mithali’s coach RSR Murthy too was handed a cheque for Rs 25 lakh on the occasion.
