Supreme Approval for ‘Security of Witnesses’
The Supreme Court on Wednesday approved the draft ‘Witness Protection Scheme’, designed by the Center for their safety of evidence in various cases. All States have been ordered to implement this draft until it is acted in Parliament. The witnesses in the case of Asaram Bapu, the controversial Swamiji arrested in the rape case, continue to face a series of attacks and disappear. Many have been picked up by the Supreme Court seeking to protect them.
The bench, which has been investigating the case many times in the past, has ordered the Center to take any measures to safeguard the witnesses. The center was finalized after the consultation with the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD).
